The Basingstoke Observer Newsletter: A thinning blue line

Last month, a report from Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC) said Hampshire Police were committed to protecting visible policing despite cuts od more than £50m the next four years.

Those cuts include getting rid of 1,000-plus staff, including 450-plus front line police officers.

The Newsletter presumes the HMIC report was supposed to be a good news story, but after the events of the last few days can anyone believe having less police on the streets is a good thing?
