Jack McKnight’s opener was not enough for Basingstoke as they were beaten by Dorchester in the final minute. An exquisite finish from Basingstoke’s September player of the month put the home side ahead, only to be pegged back on a wet Saturday afternoon.
The first chance of the afternoon fell to Sam Argent after a wonderful cross from Dean Stow found the forward, but he couldn’t get a shot and the chance was smothered. Harry Philby made an excellent block which lead to the away side getting a corner. From the resulting corner Zidan Akers started the counter which ended with a great pass to Sam Smart but a heavy touch from the forward ended in the away goalkeepers’ hands while another counter attack for the home side led to McKnight finding Smart who then crossed it to Argent but his shot was scrambled just wide.
Smart ended the half well when his shot was deflected out for a corner. From this corner the ball found its way out to Smart again, on the edge of the area whose shot was saved out to George Bennett as he reacted his shot was blocked for another corner. The final action of the first half came from the corner which found Dan Bayliss when he forced the keeper into a save.
McKnight had the first chance of the second half with a long range shot but it was once again blocked before Ross Carmichael missed a huge chance to break the deadlock for the away side from a corner, his header flying just wide.
McKnight soon broke the deadlock with a fantastic dink over the keeper. The move all started with substitute Ben Wright who found Bennett wide, then moved the ball inside to Argent who found McKnight. The ball seemed to move in slow motion as two Dorchester defenders chase the ball down but to no avail.
Just seconds after the restart Aaron Rodriguez found himself getting past Shane Hollamby and tucking the ball under Colm McAdden for a swift equaliser. Wright then had a strike from 30 yards out which forced an uncomfortable save from Alhaji Segay.
With the last kick of the game Cameron Murray scored for the away side to take all the points away from the Camrose.
