Basing building bids open

Week34-Basing_viewThe council has opened bids for development of a flagship hotel for the Basing View redevelopment area.

The council wants a developer to build a quality business-class hotel with potential to build a mixed-use development at the entrance to the redevelopment area.

The council say that they will be actively marketing the site to developers and said that a number of hotel groups have already expressed an interest in the area.

Station Launch

Bizz radio, the newest station to hit Basingstoke, is launching on September 20. The station already has 316,000 listeners after being on air for a month of broadcasting, which Bizz’s technical director Phil Wickham attributes to word of mouth. The line-up of presenters and voice-overs include the voice of X Factor Peter Dickson.

Farm value up

Farmland value across the county is soaring. The Rural Land Market Survey 2010 has found that arable land prices have risen from £13,591 to £14,209 per hectare during the past year.

Prices are predicted to continue rsing over the next 12 months.

Council signs off £24m in budget cuts

Hampshire County Council's Children's Services department has had £6 million slashed from its budget which could result in up to 185 department job losses.

And the department will have to trim a further £18million from their budget by April next year after a reduction in Government funding.

The County Council Cabinet met on Monday July 26 to try and find a way to cut costs and increase efficiencies.

Budget is a good thing, says town entrepeneur

Basingstoke entrepenuer and businesswoman Liz Jackson has had her say on last week’s Emergency Budget, claiming it is a good thing for the country. Liz formed Great Guns Marketing with just a £1,000 loan and the company now turns over more than £2.5million.
