AWE gives cash to charity

Aldermaston’s Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE) has donated £200 to Shopmobility Basingstoke, as part of their ongoing support for the charity. Shopmobility continues to campaign for increased access to the town centre for residents with mobility challenges.

The charity’s main focus is the provision of electrical or manual wheelchairs for hire and in 2003 they received and original donation from the AWE of £1,200 for the purchasing of a new scooter, now this latest £200 donation is for the upkeep of that scooter.

Ann Blackmore, Manager of the charity, commented that: “In this time of recession when many companies are unable to afford sponsorship, it is good to have continued support from AWE to maintain the vehicle.” AWE plc operates the Atomic Weapons Establishment on behalf of the Ministry of Defence, and has recently been the centre of plans for disarmament protests.
