THE masterplan for Basingstoke’s ‘business heart’ has been unveiled this week.
A multi-million-pound scheme to regenerate Basing View business park is gathering pace, with the demolition of two eyesore buildings to start by April.
It is hoped that by transforming the 65-acre town centre base, more businesses will come to the borough and benefit the town’s economy. Included in the plans will be new office space, smaller retail units and improved pedestrian access and two hotels. More than 4,000 people currently work at Basing View while 450,00 square feet of office space remain empty.
The borough council aims to cut this down to 300,000 and create thousands of new jobs in the process. The regeneration will be funded largely by central Government, with initial costs set to top £5 million. With the regeneration of The Malls, it is hoped these two huge projects will improve the image of the town.
