County websites honoured

HAMPSHIRE and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust scooped top honours at the annual Hantsweb Awards.

The initiative, aimed to recognise the achievements of county websites and a record number of companies were nominated this year.

The awards, now in their seventh year, crossed a broad range of interests and ‘I Like Music’ was honoured as best website for young people.

Other winners included the Ellen MacArthur Trust and The Sweet Treat Company.

Sally Hayns, from the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust, said: “We designed the site to communicate the importance of protecting wildlife and made it relevant to both our existing supporters and potential supporters.

“The award is a massive boost for the Trust.

“We have had a lot of positive feedback, but this recognition gives us the confidence that we are getting things right and providing an excellent resource.”

A special reception was held after the ceremony, providing an opportunity for finalists to share ideas.

Hampshire county council’s IT champion, Cllr Keith Evans, added: “Every year we aim to reach new heights for the awards so it was fitting that we launched the awards above the giraffe enclosure at Marwell Wildlife Park.

“It was tremendous to receive a record number of nominations.

“Each of the finalist’s websites demonstrate good practice in web excellence and the winners and runners-up can be proud of what their websites have achieved.

“They have also picked up good ideas at the awards ceremony and from the judges feedback to help them to develop.”
