New centre for town's entrepeneurs

A service for new businesses in Basingstoke has opened in the town promising an impressive working environment, county bosses claim.

A Smarter Working Centre officially opened at Worting House, Church Lane on Friday, March 26 following a £6,000 grant from Hampshire council. The service offers users the option of a 'pay as you use' or discounted office space from as little as £3 an hour or £10 a day. Similar schemes are now open in Whitchurch, Fareham, Havant and Gosport.

Naomi House to receive all its lost money

A Hampshire charity will recoup all of the near £6million it lost in the Icelandic banking collapse, it was announced this week.

Naomi House children’s hospice, based in Winchester, had the money frozen in the British bank Kaupthing, Singer and Friedlander in October 2008. The banks administrators have indicated 75per cent of the funds will be returned and Hampshire Primary Care Trust this week agreed to a £1.5million grant.

Borough landlord rebranded

One of the borough’s biggest landlords has been rebranded as of today (Thursday).

Kingfisher HVHS has undergone a makeover and will now be called Sovereign Kinfisher. The Sovereign Group encompasses more than 30,000 homes across south and west England and the move comes after an amalgamation of Sovereign and Kingfisher in July 2009.

Maria slams music tax for charities

Hundreds of charities across Basingstoke face extra costs under new Government proposals, according to town MP Maria Miller.

Plans are afoot to impose new charges for using music, which will hit charities at fund raising events. Maria has backed a national campaign called Don’t Stop the Music, run by the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO).
