MP Maria Miller was guest of honour at the opening of a new CAT scanner at Basingstoke hospital.
The arrival of the new scanner is part of a three year, £1.9m project, to revamp the Basingstoke Radiology department.
Chief executive, Mary Edwards, said “We are absolutely delighted that Maria Miller has been able to join us to officially open our new, second scanner.
“This very modern machine will support our increased number of patients who require high quality diagnostic care, as well as ensuring prompt access.”
Computerised tomography (CT) is a test that uses x-ray equipment and computer software to create pictures of the inside of the body.
The new scanner will provide state-of-the-art imaging for patients suffering from stroke and cardiac disease. Around 10,000 patients require CT scans at Basingstoke hospital every year.
