Hampshire County Council has awarded the charity Trinity Winchester a grant of £90,000 over the next three years to help in the running of its drop-in centres in Winchester and Basingstoke.
Trinity Winchester is a charity providing services for those experiencing the effects of homelessness, problems with substance misuse, mental health issues, poverty, unemployment and social isolation.
In January 2010 Trinity extended it services to Basingstoke, opening Camrose Place, Vyne Road. The charity runs a drop-in centre that is open on Tuesday and Thursday between 2.30pm to 4.30pm. The charity hopes the grant will let them extend their opening hours to Saturday's.
Leader of Hampshire County Council, Councillor Ken Thornber, said: “We all want to feel safe and secure and this is what the Trinity Centre aims to achieve for those who are facing life on the streets or have other issues that leave them feeling isolated.
“Trinity offers help and assistance to some of the most vulnerable people in our community and acts as a lifeline for those who come to the centres to find shelter, advice, and support.
“In the current financial climate it is likely that services such as those offered by Trinity will be more in demand than ever before and I hope that this grant will go someway to helping them to meet that demand and their aim of extending their opening hours."
