Appeal for more cyclists to support charity event

With just weeks to go, St. Michael’s hospice is struggling to get cyclists to sign up for their Big Wheel fundraiser on Sunday July 18.
So far only 300 cyclists have signed up, well below the usual 1,200 riders.

The income from the event usually equates to the running costs for the hospice for a whole week - £60,000.
The event, which is sponsored by Computer 2000, will start from Down Grange Sports Complex, Basingstoke between 9am and 10.30am, from where cyclists can enjoy three new routes through the beautiful North Hampshire countryside.
The routes are of five miles, 25 miles and a more challenging 50 miles for experienced or regular cyclists and upon return there will be a fabulous free leg massage from the Hospice’s magnificent team of Complementary Therapists.

Pat Darty, Events Coordinator for St. Michael's Hospice said: “We are slightly concerned that registration numbers are low in comparison to previous years so we really would urge anyone who is thinking of taking part to sign up and support their local Hospice.
“It really is a great day out for amateur and professional cyclists together with fun for families.
“We have also introduced a new Corporate Challenge Cup for companies to get involved in so are hoping lots of local businesses will sign-up to help boost the numbers."

“We really can’t stress enough how important these types of events are for Hospice fundraising activities and hope that many more people from the local community join in.”

Entry to Big Wheel 16 costs £15 per adult, £7.50 per child (aged 16 or under and must be accompanied by an adult), £40.00 for two adults and two children and £25.00 for a tandem bike entry.
Cyclists are also urged to register early and save money as on the day registration fees will be £20 for adults and £10 for children.
