A Basingstoke hospice is set to receive vital funds after teaming up with a town supermarket.
Morrisons stores across the country have pledged to raise £1mllion for Help the Hospices – a collection of charities that includes St Michaels, based at Aldermaston Road. Throughout the ten month partnership every Morrisons supermarket across the country has teamed up with their nearest hospice to raise cash.
Jane Carley, Fundraising Manager for St Michael’s Hospice, said: “All of St Michael’s vital services are provided to adults across North Hampshire completely free of charge. On average it costs us £21 per hour for a nurse to provide this essential care and the money raised by Morrisons will make a huge difference to the services our nurses provide.”
This week, collection buckets will be in place at Morrisons, in Worting Road as part of the ‘Going Yelow to Raise a Smile’ event – with yellow-themed fundraising activities for colleagues and customers. Mike Palfreman, Director of Fundraising at Help the Hospices, added: “We are delighted to be Morrisons Charity of the Year. We look forward to working with Morrisons to make the £1million target a reality so that everyone facing the end of life can receive the best possible care.”
St Michaels must raise £2.3million annually and is heavily reliant on donations from the public.
Angus Maciver, from Morrisons, concluded: “Each year we ask our colleagues to nominate a charity that will help ‘raise a smile’ and for 2010 we are really pleased that Help the Hospices was the resounding choice. Local hospices do great work at the heart of the communities that many of our stores operate in and we look forward to raising some vital funds to support such a great cause.”
