Basingstoke Live is a record breaker

BasingstokeLiveThousands of music lovers and sunshine seekers flocked to the War Memorial Park for a weekend of live performances.

Basingstoke Live had a sixth year of record numbers as up to 50,000 packed out the venue.

The borough council-funded, free for all event was heralded a success by chuffed organisers.

Borough culture chief, Councillor Cathy Osselton, said: “Basingstoke Live is an extremely successful event which is well attended by residents and visitors to the borough.

“This year was no exception and I’m delighted that thousands of people came along to enjoy the music and entertainment over the weekend.”

She added that the council could look to stage a bigger event next year to cope with its swelling popularity.

“As this is growing year-on-year we will continue looking at how the event is managed to ensure that arrangements respond to the increasing number of people attending,” she said.

“The success of this event is a tremendous credit to all of the promoters, our sponsors and partners who have worked so hard to make this event happen.”

The two-day festival was headlined by drum and bass DJ Andy C on Saturday and followed by the Blockheads on Sunday.

But the festival also gave homegrown talent a chance to showcase their music.

Last year’s Festival Factor finalist, 11-year-old Lauren Thalia was scheduled to play the Unplgd! Stage but was bumped up to the main stage on Saturday.

BasingstokeLive2No stranger to cheering crowds, the star of the future said she hopes to come back in the future.

She said: “It was amazing performing on the main stage. At first I wasn’t sure if I was ready but once I got up there and saw everyone cheering I knew that I could do it.

“It was an honour to be moved to the main stage at my first visit to Basingstoke Live. I very much look forward to performing here in future years.”
