Basingstoke man is Motability movie star

Aaron_MorganA young Basingstoke man paralysed from the waist down has become one of the stars of a charity film.

Aaron Morgan, 20, from Lychpit, features in a DVD explaining the benefits of Motability, a car scheme for disabled people.

The release comes as more than one million disabled people are believed to be eligible for a Government-funded mobility allowance.

Aaron was left wheelchair bound when he broke his spine in a motocross accident.

He said: “When I was 15 I had a motocross accident and it left me paralysed from the waist down. I’ve always been a massive fan of motor sports so when I found out I could learn to drive at 16 I signed up for lessons straight away. I passed my test first time and ordered my first Motability car.”

In November last year, Basingstoke MP and minister for the disabled, Maria Miller, handed Aaron his keys for a new set of wheels.

The Brunel University sports science student said: “The Motability scheme provides you with a massive amount of freedom. My car allows me to go about my daily life without any problems. I can get to lectures, go out with my friends, and even take my washing home at the weekend for my mum.”

The scheme lets people receiving higher rate mobility components of disability living allowance or war pensioners mobility supplement order customised cars.

Vehicles can also be adapted for disabled people.
