The festive period marked a hectic time for Bison, who played four matches in the English Ice Hockey Premiere League.
Two successive weekends of play provided a mixed bag for the Herd, who lost two and won two.
This came as a disappointment to the team, who, on 12 straight wins, were chasing a club record of 15 – but were cursed by unlucky 13, losing to the Swindon Wildcats.
Bison started the four-game spell on a high, beating Peterborough Phantoms at home.
The Herd won the match 4-3, but only after a penalty shootout as normal time was tied at three all.
The home side opened the scoring through Bison man-of-the-match Victor Kubenko 11minutes into the first period. But two minutes later Phantom's Tom Carlon levelled the scores.
In the second period Steve Fisher opened the scoring for Bison, but in similar fashion the Phantoms brought the scores level shortly after through Joe Miller.
Peterborough's Maris Ziedins made it 3-2 early in the final period. Going into the final minute, Bison were still trailing and replaced keeper Dean Skinns for an extra player.
The risky move worked and Kubenko netted his second with seconds left on the clock.
The draw pushed the game into penalties and a Skinns save from Miller gave the Herd the win.
But the momentum did not carry into the December 27 clash away to the Swindon Wildcats, who brought the Herd’s run of wins to an end.
The 7-6 thriller got off to a bad start for the visitors, who were three goals down by the end of the first period.
But two quick-fire goals from Kubenko and Steve Moria in the opening minutes of the second period kept the side in the game.
By the end of second period, the scores were level at five each as Moria and Kubenko got their second and Ollie Bronnimann netted his first.
In the third period, Nicky Chinn made it six, but two goals from the Wildcats ended Bison’s hope of a win.
The new year saw the Herd back to winning ways, beating derby rivals Bracknell Bees at home on Saturday.
Bison won the match comfortably 7-3 with goals from Liam Chong and Ondrej Lauko in the first period.
In the second period, they doubled their lead through Andy Hemmings and Moria.
A three-goal blitz in the final period sealed Bison’s opening game of the new year with Kubenko, Mindy Kieras and Robbie Brown all putting it in the net.
But the win was short lived as the Herd suffered a heavy defeat against Peterborough on Sunday
The Herd lost out 0-4 away to the side they had beaten the weekend before and it was only the second time this season Bison failed to score in 60 minutes.
The Herd went into the final period only trailing a single goal.
But in a bid to find the elusive equaliser, Bison committed too many players forward and the Phantoms took home the points.
On Saturday and Sunday, the Herd will hope to pick themselves up as they take on Slough Jets and Bracknell Bees.
