A campaign group urging people to support a radical shake-up in the way we vote was out and about in Basingstoke after a three-week setback.
The Yes To Fairer Votes group were campaigning outside the Willis Museum and the train station on April 2 urging residents to vote for a change in the British electoral system.
The country will go to the polls on May 5 to decide whether to keep the first-past-the post system at elections or change to the Alternative Vote method, in which voters rank their choices in order of preference.
They were due to kick off their campaign on March 5, but due to leaflet problems delayed the launch.
Leading the group, 56-year-old Mark Scott, from Sherfield-on-Loddon, said: “The team were pleased to hear from many members of the public who are already planning to vote yes, and from others who were receptive to the arguments for and against, and those who plan on making up their own minds in time for the vote in just over four weeks.
“There is much work to be done to raise awareness of the referendum and to explain the case for changing to the Alternative Vote system.
“Everyone should take some time to understand for themselves why this reform is a good idea, and must not accept at face value the negative messages and disinformation being put out.”
