A new £2million development set to become the heart of a borough community got underway last week.
Basingstoke council has teamed up with the Sherfield Park Community Association to build the new facility, funded by Croudance Homes as part of its development on Taylor’s Farm.
Set to open in spring 2011, the centre will form a new village quarter on the Sherfield Park development off the A33.
Chairman of Sherfield Park Community Association, David Leivesley, said: “We are all thrilled that at long last we can see the start of our community centre, which will play such a major role in changing Sherfield Park from a housing development into a community.”
Meanwhile Russell Denness, managing director of Croudance Homes, said at the launch: “Today marks the culmination of a great deal of detailed preparation work by a whole host of people in order that the community centre will both provide a range of amenities for people living in Sherfield Park and be a building that everyone can be proud of.
“I am delighted, therefore, to see construction work get underway.
“Sherfield Park has become recognised both locally and nationally as a high quality development and construction of the new building set in its landscaped surroundings will add to this reputation.”
