Crackdown on dog fouling

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council has joined forces with an environmental charity to get dog owners to clean up after their pets.

The council has teamed up with Keep Britain Tidy in launching the Bag it and Bin it campaign to combat dog fouling across the area.

To kick off the campaign, community patrol officers went to Manor Field Junior School in Brighton Hill to teach pupils about littering and dog responsibility.

Cabinet Member for Environment and Climate Change, Councillor Elaine Still, said: “Dog fouling is the most offensive type of litter on our streets and is constantly rated as one of the most important issues blighting their local area by the public.”

The council's campaign wants owners to ensure that dog mess is bagged and disposed of in a litter bin.
