Crowbar raid on South Ham shop

crime-policemenMen in balaclavas stormed a Basingstoke shop and threatened a woman with a crowbar.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses to the robbery in South Ham on April 26.

Police said that at around 6.10am, three men wearing balaclavas and hooded tops walked into the One Stop shop in St Michaels Road.

They threatened a female shop assistant with the crowbar and demanded she hand over cash. The woman was not injured but was left shaken.

The men then ran out of the store, and got into a silver Peugeot car which drove off at speed up Claythorpe Road, over Aliston Way and across the grassed area and footpaths at the back of Pennine Way, onto Cheviot Close and towards the Buckskin area.

Detective Constable Katie Barry, from Basingstoke CID, said: “This was a frightening incident for the shop assistant who fortunately was not hurt during the robbery.

“There were customers in the shop when this incident happened, and the men ran past them as well as other members of the public, and I would ask these people to get in touch.

“I’d also like to trace the driver of a Southern Electric van which was parked outside when this robbery happened as they may have vital information that can help us.”

Anyone with any information should contact Det Con Barry on 101 or Crimstoppers on 0800 555111.
