A Basingstoke street dance group performed their first ever show in front of sell-out audiences.
Backbeat Dance performed their Christmas show at Everest Community College on Friday, December 10 in front of 200 people.
Demand for the show was so high that there was even a waiting list of people who wanted to attend.
Up to 62 dancers aged between 4 and 17 years old took part in the show, which saw a mixture of group and solo dance performances.
The performers were all members of either the infant, junior or senior classes held at Brookvale Village Hall and Old Basing Infant School
Backbeat Dance founder Laura Keith said: “The dancers performed fantastically well at the show and they really did me proud. I was a very happy dance teacher.”
Laura, who travels up from Southampton to teach the classes said the group had worked hard over the past term to learn all the difficult routines, and some of the older dancers even choreographed parts of the show themselves.
“Most of our dancers had never performed on stage before so they did a great job of not letting their nerves get the better of them,” she said.
Backbeat Dance started four years ago and now runs over 30 classes a week throughout schools, village halls and leisure centres in Hampshire, delivering dance lessons to more than 550 students each week.
The classes specialise in teaching street dance to people ranging from three years old to adults, but Backbeat Dance also teaches hip-hop, contemporary dance and cheerleading.
“I am very lucky to have such a supportive group of mums, dads and grannies who come along every week to support the dancers and give plenty of encouragement and help out at hectic rehearsals,” said Laura.
“Along with a wonderful group of dedicated, hard working dancers, they really make going to work a joy.”
