Death crash biker named by police

crime-policemenA man who died in a collision on a busy Basingstoke road on Monday last week has been named by police.

Sixty-three-year-old motorcyclist George Williams received fatal head injuries after colliding head on with a car on the A30 Ringway South near the Hackwood roundabout at 3pm.

10-2011-Wk43_George_Williams_HeadshotThe car, a Toyota Prius, was being driven by a 39-year-old man from Waterlooville eastwards along the A30. Despite receiving treatment by emergency services, the Susuki rider was declared dead at the scene. The Prius driver was taken to Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital with chest and stomach injuries.

In a statement, Mr Williams’ family said: "The loss of George in this sudden, tragic accident has affected our family and friends deeply. George was a hardworking, well respected man who provided for his family’s every need. Although a keen motorcyclist, George was a very careful rider, restoring and riding motorcycles all his life. George was a loving husband, father, brother and friend who could be relied by all in any eventuality.”
