A Basingstoke estate is sparkling this week after being given a makeover.
Staff from Sentinel Housing and Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council joined forces to spruce up Winklebury Centre in the latest in a series of estate clean-ups.
Twelve people spent three days cutting hedges, clearing gutters, steam-cleaning paths, fitting cigarette bins and repainting road markings.
Winklebury Centre resident Lynne Loring said: “It’s so nice and clean.
“Now the trees and bushes have been cut back it’s made it easier to get about.”
The housing association put together a ‘to do’ list after collecting feedback from residents and neighbourhood surveys.
Sentinel executive director Val Bagnall said: “This work has really improved the look of Winklebury Centre and we’re now looking at what else needs to happen to keep the area up to scratch for all residents, not just our customers.”
The clean-up follows on from work at Oakridge, which received a 11-day makeover followed by the launch of a charter signed by residents pledging them to keep the area up to scratch.
Cllr Paul Harvey, who spent two years campaigning for the scheme, said: “It is most pleasing to see the clean-ups being rolled out right across the borough.
“We hope that Sentinel will deliver the charter across the town.
“At the moment, it's all good news and progress.”
