A team of world champions desperately needs public support to hold onto their crown.
Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service currently hold the title of world champion extrication team – removing a person from a vehicle following an accident.
But since the scrappage scheme was put in place, the service has found cars to practice on hard to come by.
Members have now launched an appeal to residents with an unwanted car or van to help improve their skills.
Hampshire extrication team leader, Steve Barrow, said: “Until the introduction of the government’s scrappage scheme we never had a problem getting vehicle donations, but the situation has become a lot more difficult now the government has introduced a cash inventive. This event is a big on the fire and rescue service calendar and as current vehicle extrication champions we need all the practice we can get to ensure we remain top of our game.
“But not only does my team use these vehicles, firefighters around the county also benefit and they use them in order to learn the important skills they need when they attend life-critical road traffic incidents.”
