Former Mayor raises record amount for charity

The former Mayor of Basingstoke has raised a record amount for good causes in the borough during the past 12 months. Cllr Brian Gurden is now presenting cheques to his nominated charities and handed out more than £19,00 to the Basingstoke group of the Wessex Cancer Trust. In total Cllr Gurden raised over £75,000 during his Mayoral year.

Judith Blaza, chairman, said: “The group is thrilled with the donation and would like to thank Cllr Brian Gurden for all the hard work that he and his team had put into their fundraising.”

Cllr Gurden added: “I would like to thank everyone who helped me to raise this phenomenal amount of money for my charity appeal and I am delighted to be able to hand over these funds which will be put to good use by the Wessex Cancer Trust in Basingstoke and Deane.”
