Fundraisers take over Whitchurch charity shop

Fundraisers for a vital community service have tried out a new way to raise cash.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance (HIOWAA) volunteers have taken over a Whitchurch charity shop.

From July 16 to 22, HIOWAA wants shoppers to pop in to the London Street store and grab a bargain to help fund the trust.

HIOWAA community fundraiser June Leatheam said she was thrilled at the show of support and the shop was pulling in up to £400 per day, and is hoping for a final day surge on Friday. She said: “It has gone extremely well so far. People have been coming out in to show their support.”

The air ambulance was launched in 2007 and has been called out on more than 3000 life saving missions.

The round-the-clock service needs up to £110,000 per month to stay flying.

Ms Leatheam added: “Even if we don't get that much it is great that people have been coming in and supporting us.”
