Ecstatic students across Basingstoke breathed a sigh of relief as GCSE results were released on Tuesday.
After months of anxious waiting, year 11 students arrived in droves to get their grades.
Schools across the county posted a successful suite of marks as students started to think of their next steps.
Peter Hutchinson, head teacher at The Vyne Community School, Basingstoke, said about his students collecting their results: “I think that they have got what they richly deserve.
“They have worked hard and they have done well. I am very proud of all the students and particularly all of the staff that have supported them."
The school said that seven of their students had achieved the equivalent of ten A*s or more. Using a points system where 10 A*s equal 580 points, he said: “There are about three girls who have achieved in excess of 800 points, which is truly exceptional.”
He said: “Overall we have seen an improvement in our results over the last few years. Students are put under a huge amount of pressure to perform and many have worked tremendously hard and put a lot of pressure on themselves and so many will be ecstatic.
The head of year 11 at the school, Ben Allnutt, said that he had been working with the year for the last three years and was extremely happy for the students.
He said: “I am very proud for all of them. It has been a battle with a few over the years and some have really turned themselves around. I have been working closely with a few and they have really come through in the end.”
