Have your say on how the borough will develop over the next 20 years.
That’s the message from Basingstoke council as they begin to map out a blueprint for the borough. Major issues such as where to build homes, schools, leisure facilities, shops and offices will all be decided and the council wants to know what local people think.
A number of key areas have been outlined, including possible regeneration of out-dated 1960s and 1970s urban housing areas. The proposals could also see an increased university presence in Basingstoke while deciding whether to increase leisure and recreation facilities across the borough.
The consultation is part of a lengthy process called the Local Development Framework and, in the autumn, all work The period began on Monday, March 15 and will run until Monday, April 26 at 5pm.
Cabinet member for Planning and Infrastructure, Cllr Rob Golding, commented: “The choices we make now will impact where we live and our opportunities for work, education and leisure. They will also affect how we improve the open spaces in our towns, maintain the quality of our countryside, enhance biodiversity and do our bit to combat climate change. Our planners have put together this latest consultation which gives everyone who lives or works in the borough the chance to get involved in the debate.”
