The Basingstoke Observer news team will be doing its bit for Naomi House children’s hospice this summer by taking on a charity challenge.
And we are asking big-hearted readers to help support the cause by visiting our Just Giving website and donate anything you can. We will be taking on the Clarendon Way Walk on Saturday June 6, an annual trek from Winchester to Salisbury cathedrals.
Naomi House delivers care to life-limited youngsters and has helped hundreds of families. The event is one of the hospice’s biggest fundraisers with 950 people taking part in last year’s walk, raising thousands-of-pounds in the process.
The walk takes place on June 6 and walkers of all abilities can take on the 26mile route, with a shorter 12mile course also available. Registration costs £10 for adults, £5 for under 18’s and includes registration pack, picnic lunch and special walk t-shirt.
The Observer team would love to make £250 for the charity and is calling on readers to do what they can for this great cause. The charity has two specialist units, Naomi House for children and jacksplace for young people – each unit is purpose built and provides an appropriate environment for each age group.
With annual running costs of £4.5million, the charity receives only 7per cent of its funding from the Department of Health – the remaining £4.2million is raised by people and businesses across the region.
To donate, visit www.justigiving.com/basingstokeobserver or visit the Observer offices in Festival Place. To get involved with the Clarendon Way Walk 2010 contact Katrina McDuff on 01962 846513.
