Hospice launches fundraising drive

A FUNDRAISING drive has been launched by Basingstoke-based St Michael’s Hospice to extend a vital service. Hospice at Home has allowed staff to visit patients with life-limited illnesses in their own home.

Launched last year, the service now needs to raise £25,000 to pay for a nurse to join the team and extend to an overnight on call service. The out-of-hours service will provide patients and their carers with a contact number should an urgent situation occur during the night. It is hoped this will reduce the likelihood of unnecessary admission to the hospital or hospice as patients can remain at home.

Lucinda Stubbs, Marketing Manager, commented: “We have had a fantastic response so far and the local community have already generously given over £7,000 towards this appeal. “Hospice at Home is such a vital service for patients living at home with a life-limiting illness and it would just be fantastic to be able to extend this service to provide patients with access to an on call service through the night for when help is needed. “We would like to thank everyone who has generously given to this appeal so far and would encourage others to give regardless of how small or large their donation as every penny really does make a huge difference to patients lives.”

Anyone interested in donating towards the appeal can do so by visiting www.stmichaelshospice.org.uk or call the Fundraising Team on 01256 848848.
