James backs north Hampshire volunteers

James Arbuthnot, North East Hampshire MP, has praised the work of volunteers in his constituency.

To mark Volunteers’ Week, which took place from June 1 to June 7, members of various organisations shared their stories with MPs at an event held in the House of Commons. Volunteers’ Week, which is organised by the independent charity Volunteering England, is an annual event which celebrates the work of volunteers all over the UK.

James said: “Without the willing dedication of those that give their time, money and love to helping others, this country would come to a shuddering halt.
It is a matter of great pride that so may people work so hard, often without any recognition, on behalf of others. This is my chance, on behalf of my constituency to say a heartfelt thank you.”

Justin Davis Smith, Chief Executive of Volunteering England, said: “I am pleased to see that so many MPs recognise the importance of volunteering and have taken the time to come here and thank the volunteers in their local communities.
The country faces many challenges in the current economic climate and volunteering will have a central role to play in ensuring that we emerge stronger and more resilient.

After the event James said “I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who gives their time for the benefit of our local community in North East Hampshire.
“Volunteers’ Week is an ideal time to recognise the amazing contribution volunteers make to all our lives and I’d like to encourage more people to get involved wherever they can.
“With volunteering there’s something for everyone – whether it’s mentoring young people, supporting the elderly or campaigning on local issues, it’s a great way to meet people, give something back to the local community and make a real difference to other peoples’ lives.”
