A marathon walk to fund research into the deadly brain bug meningitis will pass through Basingstoke on Thursday October 14.
Charity Meningitis UK, which is organising the walk, is urging Basingstoke residents to take part in any stage of the Bridlington to Brighton marathon.
The walkers, who will cover the 334-mile distance in 16 days, are passing through the town on their 22-mile leg from Kingsclere to Alton.
The chief executive of Meningitis UK, Steve Dayman, lost his son Spencer to the disease. Mr Dayman is walking the entire distance and hopes to be joined by over 100 supporters on the way in the bid to raise £50,000 for the charity’s vaccine research work.
“Just one mile would make a difference,” he said. “Six families a week face the heartbreak of losing a loved one to meningitis.”
