Basingstoke MP Maria Miller pledged to value the borough’s natural heritage after meeting with a conservation group.
Mrs Miller met with Debbie Tann, chief executive of the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust, at the House of Commons on March 30.
The event was held to highlight the value of funding Wildlife trust projects. It showcased a number of schemes carried out by the trust and funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF).
Maria said: “It was great to hear from Debbie Tann how HLF-funded Wildlife Trust projects have brought benefits to local wildlife and people in Hampshire.
“This shows what can be done if a body invests in and values the natural environment.
“The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust do a fantastic job in helping to restore nature and enabling more people to engage with the natural world. I would particularly draw attention to the important conservation work being carried out by the Trust in the Loddon and Eversley Heritage Area.”
The Wildlife Trust, which is celebrating 50 years, is made up of 47 individual trusts covering the UK. The Loddon and Eversley Heritage Area encompasses all of Basingstoke borough and parts of Hart district.
The Hampshire Wildlife Trust works with communities and landowners to protect and restore landscapes.
