New appeal for missing woman launched

2-2012-WK6_frances_clarkDetectives hunting for a missing Basingstoke woman are growing increasingly concerned for her welfare.

Frances Clark was last seen by her family in May 2011 and has not been in contact since.

This week police issued a fresh appeal for information after an appeal in November failed to produce any leads. They are calling for a female taxi driver to come forward who is believed to have given her a lift to Winchester.

The 48-year-old is known to stay at night shelters and hostels across the south and it is not unusual for her not to contact her family for months at a time.

Detective Constable Claire Chandler said: “Frances has not been seen by her family for some time now and they are understandably worried about her.

“I would really like to speak to the taxi driver who picked Frances up that day as she may have information which could help us find Frances and make sure she’s ok.”

Frances, who also uses surnames Phillips, Laing and Hockley, was last seen getting into the taxi on Penny Black Lane, by Basingstoke Hospital, at 8.30pm on May 1. Detectives said they believe the Basingstoke-based taxi driver took Frances to the St Cross area in Winchester.

She was last seen wearing a long beige coloured coat and was described as looking gaunt.

She carried her personal belongings in a white carrier bag. She has blonde hair, but it is believed she may have cut it short, and dyed in a bright colour. She is 5ft 8ins tall, and has blue eyes. Det Con Chandler urged anyone with information to come forward. “I would appeal to anyone who may have seen her or knows where she is to contact us,” she said. I would also appeal directly to Frances to call us and let us know she’s ok.”

Call 101 with any information.
