Councillors will vote tomorrow on who will replace former borough council leader Andrew Finney.
Acting leader and former deputy Cllr Clive Sanders is expected to get the nod after receiving Conservative party backing last month.
The East Wooday ward member replaced Cllr Finney after he stood down in December. Should Cllr Sanders take the post he is expected to appoint cabinet finance chief Cllr Ranil Jayawardena as his deputy.
