New multimedia system for community group

TadleyCommunityCentreA borough community group has received a boost from the charitable arm of the Aldermaston nuclear weapons base.

The Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE) community committee has handed over  £1,000 to Tadley and District Community Association.

The group will use the cash to buy a state-of-the-art multi-media system to put on film screenings.

Tadley town councillor Mike Broad presented the cheque last week to association manager Mandy Atkinson.

He said: “Residents and children responded to a survey we carried out asking what recreational facilities they would like to see in Tadley.

“The results overwhelmingly supported a small cinema for the area, and we are grateful to this donation from AWE.

“When the film society is up and running, I’m sure everyone will enjoy the wider benefits it will bring.”

Michele Maidment, secretary of the community committee, said: “AWE enjoys supporting local and worthwhile causes and we felt this was something that many local people will enjoy.”

The group hope to stage the first showing later this year.
