Campaign lost to save Whitchurch park land

Daniel-Park-Protest-c-John-BuckleyA community battling to reverse a decision by borough council leaders to exclude a piece of land from protection has conceded defeat.

Earlier this month the borough’s economic prosperity and performance committee met to consider what part of Daniel’s Park Whitchurch would be entered into a deed of dedication.

The legally-binding agreement with Fields in Trust, would rename the part Queen Elizabeth II Field and prevent any future development on the site.

A bright future ahead for Anvil Arts

Christine3Anvil Arts is going from strength to strength, according to its chief executive.

Christine Bradwell said the organisation has every reason to celebrate as it marks its 18th birthday this year.

Speaking to the Observer, Christine, from Winchester, said Anvil Arts has come along way since TV science guru Brian Cox and D:Ream played The Anvil’s first gig on April 28, 1994.

Woman dies in M3 collision

m3_crashA woman has died following a suspected two-car collision on the M3 at Basingstoke.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

The collision happened at 5.25pm today (May 16) and involved a white Volkswagen Golf and a blue Honda Jazz which overturned upon impact.

The driver of the Honda, a woman, sustained life threatening injuries and was pronounced dead at Basingstoke hospital.

The driver of the Volkswagen, a man, was treated for shock but not seriously injured.

Cash worries for Basingstoke residents

People in Basingstoke are becoming increasingly worried about the amount of cash they have tucked away for a rainy day, a new report has revealed.

Just over two out of three people (64 per cent) surveyed said savings of up to £5,000 would be enough to put a smile on their face, compared to four out of five people (82 per cent) in 2010.

Lloyd Webber Champions Music Hub

The Anvil has been singled out to play a key role in a pioneering new county music scheme.

Hampshire County Council’s Music Service will be a lead partner in a new-look Hampshire Music Hub.

The Arts Council of England announced on Friday that the music service would spearhead the new partnership.
