Week40Sport-1Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council wants to hear residents’ views on sport and recreation to help shape its policy on leisure.

The council has launched a consultation, giving residents a chance to air their views.

The feedback will help shape the council's strategic plan for sport and recreation, which determines how future resources are used up until 2026.

Week40--2A Basingstoke hip-hop artist is planning to put the town on the map after a recent run of success in music and talent competitions.

Andre Schuster from Buckskin, who sings under the name MCX, is hoping to win over judges at the live stages of Open Mic UK.

The 25-year-old singer will be performing on Sunday October 17 at the Princes Hall, Aldershot.

Hiowatha to the rescue

Week40--3A new rescue helicopter nicknamed Hiowatha is set to help save even more lives.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight air ambulance service launched the larger, faster EC135 aircraft on Tuesday last week.

The launch, at Beaulieu Motor Museum, is the latest success story for the charity, which has completed more than 2,470 air rescue missions since it started up in 2007.

The aircraft, funded through public donations, will replace the 33-year-old helicopter previously used by the charity...

Brave soles wanted

Shopmobility Basingstoke is looking for volunteers to take part in a five metre walk over burning hot coals. The event is taking place tomorrow (Friday) at Basingstoke Rugby Club to raise money for the charity.

Up to 30 volunteers will be given two hours of motivational training by firewalk experts  before completing their sponsored walk.  Shopmobility has teamed up with Hampshire and Isle of Wight air ambulance service to organise Basingstoke’s first fire walk.
