New Popley homes plan revealed

1-2012-Wk4_North_Popley_Fields_PlanUp to 450 homes could be built on a controversial pocket of undeveloped farmland in Basingstoke.

On Wednesday David Wilson Homes Southern submitted a planning application to build on Kiln Farm, north Popley fields.  The announcement is a bitter blow to campaigners who have fought to block its development.

Giuseppe Zanre, David Wilson Homes planning director, said details of the first 200 homes had been submitted, as well as outline permission for the entire 450-home project.

Borough council slashes charity cash

Voluntary organisations that help some of the borough’s most vulnerable residents will be hit by an average four per cent reduction in borough council cash.

Cabinet chiefs approved slashing support to charitable organisations, saving the authority more than £22,000.

The borough’s cabinet member for communities, sport, and leisure, Cllr Clive Sanders, said the funding changes had been worked out with the affected groups.

No patients on mixed sex wards new figures show

New figures published by the NHS show that no patients in Hampshire hospitals stayed in mixed sex wards in December last year unless with special justification.

The statistics have been welcomed by Sarah Elliott, the director of nursing at the Hampshire primary care trust.

She said that ensuring patients stay on same sex wards was important for patients privacy and dignity.

New Bollywood inspired exercise dance craze in Basingstoke

A new dance based fitness craze is set to launch in Basingstoke later this month.

Just Jhoom! Is a Bollywood inspired exercise that uses Indian dance moves, and yoga-based exercises to boost fitness.

Dance instructor Nathalie Cuzner will hold the classes at the Hatch Warren Community Centre, Longcross Lane, and The Vyne school, Vyne Road, on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
