Sherfield show success

Week36_SherfieldVillagers from Sherfield-on-Loddon proudly showed off their prized home grown flowers, fruit and vegetables at the village hall on Saturday, September 4.

The 44th Sherfield Show saw displays of gardening, floral art and cookery.

Sherfield Show Committee judges handed out cups and trophies for 23 different competitions.

Show Committee member Sue Cooper said: “The number of show entries this year were the highest since 2005 and the quality was again very high with new entrants which is always nice to see. It is a lovely way to keep a village tradition alive .”

Kids got a chance to show their talents with competitions such as 'An Allotment in a Seed Tray' and Photography competition.

Ms Cooper said: “The kids entries were as usual, imaginative, and it is lovely to see the children getting involved, one mum told me it was a great way of keeping the children occupied towards the end of the school holiday.”

First time entrant and joint winner of the Gresham-Cooke Trophy for flower arrangements and winner of the Traders Trophy for best roses, Danny Spurrier said “This was the first time I’ve entered so I’m delighted to win. It was quite stressful but also a lot of fun. I was only going to enter a jar of jam but I got carried away. I was thrilled to win. It was a lovely surprise. I shall definitely enter next year."
