Basingstoke Coroner Andrew Bradley has told of his respect for the soldiers who tried to save Lieutenant Paul Mervis, 27, from London, who was killed by a rooftop explosion in Afghanistan on June 12 last year. He made his comments at the inquest into the squaddie's death held in the town on Wednesday July 29.
