Basingstoke’s rural residents are being encouraged to start up their own Neighbourhood Watch schemes after similar initiatives received rave reviews.
Overton and Oakley already have the crime-fighting scheme set up but officers want other areas to follow suit.Neighbourhood Watch encourages better home and personal security, creating an awareness of crime in a positive way, according to police.
PCSO Daniel lines said: “We already have some schemes running successfully at the moment but we want to build up a bigger network which will give us a larger audience who can be the eyes and ears of the police.
“The benefits are varied; members can help to prevent and detect crime, pass information between the police and local residents and above all, improve the quality of life for all.”
