TWITTER sensation and internet style guru Poppy Dinsey was on the hunt for stylish shoppers on Friday for the first day of Festival Place’s October fashion show.
London-based Poppy, 24, whose family lives Basingstoke, tweeted about the event to her 10,500 followers while models strutted down the catwalk in Porchester Square showcasing outfits from high street stores.
On the runway youngsters from Basingstoke Academy of Dance were kitted out in the autumn and winter collections from Pumpkin Patch, Marks and Spencer’s and BHS.
French Connection and Monsoon showcased their party wear, and Gap and Zara decked out the male and female models in a host of the seasons must-have’s.
Fresh from London Fashion Week, Miss Dinsey told the Basingstoke Observer: “London Fashion Week was amazing but they’re showcasing £20,000 dresses and are always looking six months in advance.
“Whereas events like this are great because if you like something you can go into the store and be wearing it that same day."
All the items shown on the catwalk had an ‘as seen at the fashion show’ tag on so will be easily found in the stores.
Benefit and Bare Essentials makeup artists were offering the chance to have a ‘make under’.
Miss Dinsey, a former property writer became a high street fashion champion when she founded her ‘What I Wore Today’ website last year. And she was picking out stylish shoppers who she photographed to upload to the 250,000 hits per month site.
She said: “The concept stemmed from a New Years resolution in 2010 when I decided to wear a different outfit everyday and post a photo on my blog. Five months later and the site was big enough to focus on full time. The concept really exploded.”
