The police are calling for communities to come together and give them their views on proposed reforms of the service.
Hampshire Police Authority are visiting sites across the county to hear residents views on how the service is run.
They will visit Festival Place on Wednesday September 8
Cllr. Jacqui Rayment, Chair of Hampshire Police Authority, said: “It’s really important that local communities understand how the Government’s proposals will affect them. One person will represent the views of the 1.9 million residents, spread across the 1,600 square miles of the constabulary area and have sole responsibility for a budget in the region of £300 million.
“We really want to find out local communities views on the proposals to feed them back in our formal response to the Government, and ensure that we remain focused on meeting the needs of the communities of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.”
The plans under discussion will be the idea of replacing the Police Authority with an elected Police and Crime Commissioner by May 2012. Creating a new Police and Crime Panel to watch over the Commissioner.
The plans will also look at creating a new National Crime Agency to deal with serious organised crime and the idea of greater individual responsibility for neighbourhoods.
