A Hampshire wildlife hospital is once again open for business after moving to a new premises near Alton.
HART Wildlife Rescue, formerly of Overton, completed their delicate transfer this week, with six adult and six baby hedgehogs and 14 birds making the move as well.
The former hospital site, at Dellands, has now closed permanently, meaning June and Bob Gibbs can have their house and garden back to normal. For the last 14 years the couple have devoted themselves to caring for wildlife, sharing their home with all sorts of wild animals – and more than the occasional volunteer.
June said: “On the first day after the move we just kept looking at each other, expecting someone to say something. We had closed the gates and put up a notice to say the hospital had moved and, surprisingly, no one came. It felt very odd after nearly 15 years of dreaming about it and I don’t think I will be able to just drop it.”
June is not completely out of the woods, with several ducks and a goose staying for further care until they are fit to be released. She has also agreed to foster Gladys, a partially blind Mallard duck who will become a permanent resident.
Hospital manager Charmian Greenland-Jones added: “Moving was hard work and it will take a little while before we are fully operation but it is great to be here and a relief tat everyone survived the journey.”
HART Wildlife Rescue is now open at Soldridge Business Park in Medstead, near Alton.
