A pair of men have stolen cameras worth almost £800 from a town centre store last week. Police are appealing for information from anyone in The Malls between 3pm and 3.40pm on Tuesday, June 22.
A man was seen to enter Jessops, in Castle Square, on a number of occasions and was acting suspiciously. He then removed a sliding glass door from the front of a display cabinet close to the entrance and stole five boxed compact cameras. He concealed the cameras in a holdall which had been brought into the store by a second man shortly before. Both men left the store and walked towards the Anvil.
The five Canon IXUS blue compact cameras are worth £159 each. The first man is described as white, 5ft 8ins tall, aged in his late 20s or early 30s, of slim build with a completely shaved head. He was wearing a khaki jumper or jacket with jeans and had weathered features.The second is described as slim build wearing a bright blue polo t shirt.
PC Will Butcher said: “I am very keen to speak to anyone who was in The Malls at the time of the incident, who may have seen the men in the area. I would also like to alert shop staff and managers to be particularly aware of the security of their stock. Always be vigilant and ensure you report any suspicious activity to the police immediately."
