CCTV image released to stop town thief

POLICE have released an image of a woman they want to speak to in relation to a theft in the town last month. At around 11.15am on Monday, February 15 a 58-year-old woman was shopping at Poundland in Festival Place and noticed a woman standing close to her. When she went to pay at the till she found her purse had been stolen. The woman is described as white, in her mid 30s, average build, brown hair and wearing a white skirt, black coat and shoes.

PC Ross Holdsworth, of the Basingstoke Safer Neighbourhoods Team, said: “We want to remind shoppers to look after their belongings when they are out in the town centre and would ask them to report any suspicious people to police. “We are keen to hear from anyone who recognises the woman in the image or anyone with any information about the theft.” Anyone with information can contact PC Holdsworth at Basingstoke police station on 101 or by calling the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.
