Group of thugs rob teenager in town alleyway

crime-policemenDetectives are hunting a large group of yobs who mugged a 17-year-old in an alleyway.

The incident happened on July 30, between 7.15pm and 7.30pm, off Eastrop Lane, near the YMCA.  Police said the young man was walking along the alleyway when he was approached by a group male teenagers.

One of the gang repeatedly asked for money from the victim, and when the victim refused and began to walk away, the boy grabbed him by his bag straps.  He eventually managed to pull away and ran off to a friend’s house. Later he discovered that a t-shirt and about £20 in cash had been pinched from his bag.

The attacker was white, aged about 16, 5ft 7ins tall and of a medium build. He wore a light-grey woollen beanie hat, a blue hooded top and dark-coloured jogging bottoms. He was clean shaven.  The rest of the gang all looked similar to the main offender and the victim told police that one was wearing a pair of Nike 6.0 trainers.

Detective Constable Drew Wright said: “Eastrop Lane is usually busy at this time of day and while some witnesses have already come forward, I am sure there are other people who would have been in the area at the time.  Thankfully the victim was not injured in this incident, but I would appeal to anyone who saw the incident or a large group of teenagers running away to contact me.”

Anyone with any information is urged to contact Det Con Wright, at Basingstoke CID or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
