A woman was indecently assaulted in the town earlier this month, prompting an appeal for witnesses from police.
The incident occurred at around 11pm on Friday, March 12 when a 49-year-old woman was walking home from a night out in the town centre. As she walked along Winterthur Way she noticed a man walking close behind her and stopped to let him past.
A few minutes later the man reappeared and ran towards her. He indecently assaulted her, pushed her over and ran off. He is described as Indian or Asian, 30 to 35 years old, 5ft 5ins to 5ft 6ins tall, slim build with short, black wavy hair.
PC Aiden Blackwell, of the Basingstoke Targeted Patrol Team, said: “This was an isolated incident that happened late in the evening. There may have been other people in the area making their way home from town and we would ask anyone with information to contact us. We would remind everyone to be aware of their surroundings when walking alone at night and report any suspicious people to us.”
Anyone with information can contact PC Blackwell at Basingstoke police station on 101 or by calling the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.
