A man was killed and his passenger suffered life threatening injuries following a hit-and-run crash in Kingsclere.
Gary Rigby, 30, was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency services, a short distance from his home on Winchester Road.
A police spokesperson said Mr Rigby's family had been notified.
A 27-year-old female passenger was transferred from Basingstoke Hospital to Southampton General where she remained in a critical condition on Monday.
Officers were called to the B3051 Winchester Road shortly after 8.20am on Friday, January 28, following reports of a collision involving a grey Volkswagen Passat and a silver Peugeot 206.
Mr Rigby had left his home in the Peugeot, and was travelling towards Whitchurch when the collision happened.
Police launched an appeal to trace the driver of the Passat, who was reported to have fled the crash scene on foot, but at 5.20pm a 27-year-old Basingstoke man was detained by officers after he returned home.
He was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and failing to stop after an accident.
He was released from custody on Saturday evening and bailed until April 11 pending further enquiries.
Police investigating the crash have renewed their appeal for more witnesses to come forward.
Acting Inspector Andy Lynch of Hampshire Constabulary’s Road Death Investigation Team said: “Police would like to thank everyone who has contacted officers with information since Friday.
“We remain keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or who thinks they saw the Volkswagen or the Peugeot in the minutes beforehand.”
Winchester Road remained closed in both directions between Swan Street, in Kingsclere, and Roman Road, in the Cannon Heath area, for eight hours, reopening shortly after 4pm.
Witnesses to the crash, or anyone who saw either vehicle before, should contact Hampshire Constabulary on 101, quoting Operation Zingel or call crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
