Man duped in car robbery

Police have issued a warning to motorists selling their cars after a theft in Brimpton Common.

The owner of an Audi Q7 met a potential buyer at The Pineapple pub. As the buyer was shown inside the vehicle, he got inside, locked the door and drove off. The car’s registration is RV56 ZKA and is worth £20,000 to £25,000.

The man is described as white, pale complexion, 5ft 10 ins to 6ft tall, aged in his late 20s with cropped mousey or ginger hair. He had a slight build, crooked teeth wearing a white shirt, black jacket, jeans with lots of studs and black or grey pump shoes.

PC Christopher Brindley, from the Basingstoke Tasking Team, said: “We are trying to trace this car and the person responsible for stealing it and would like to hear from anyone who may have seen the car being driven in the area to contact us. This appears to be an increasingly common occurrence, whereby people who advertise their cars for sale then have them stolen.

“If you are selling your car and meet with a potential buyer, please don’t leave the keys in the ignition or allow the person access to them until a deposit or payment has been made.”

Anyone with information can contact PC Brindley at Basingstoke police station on 101 or by calling the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.
