Man suffers collapsed lung following town assault

A man suffered a collapsed lung following an assault by a group of four hooded teenagers in the town earlier this month.

At around 3am on Friday, June 4 a 48-year-old man was walking along Packenham Road when he was approached by the youths who assaulted him and stole his watch before running off towards South Ham.

The victim suffered a collapsed lung and fractured ribs and received hospital treatment for his injuries.

PC Darrin Carey, of the Basingstoke Targeted Patrol Team, said: “This was an unprovoked attack which left the victim with nasty injuries. The group of teenagers had a small dog with them and we want to identify them as soon as possible. Were you awake during the early hours of Friday, did you see anything unusual in the Packenham Road area? If you did, please contact us immediately.”

Anyone with information can contact PC Carey at Basingstoke police station on 101 or by calling the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.
